Feeling the Soul of Surfing Sep. 1st, 2007 @ 09:01 pm

So I've been surfing roughly a month (about 4 times, today being 4). Even though today was a very low tide and somewhat “dead” and fogged over it was one of those WoW moments, guess you can say the “soul” of surfing. I felt a stronger connection with the ocean a very unique experience, even had a “friend” that decided to come up and say “hi” a seal line was about 30’ feet away from me.

Over all I still was able to grab some decent waves, almost stood all the way out before went flying.

alright, my name is jared. i go to school at MSU in starkville, MS going for chemE. which is a good 7-9 hour drive to the coast on weekends for surfing and theres only about a hand full of people up here that are down for making that trip and splitting gas.
but i'm getting a co op about 4 hours south of here in the middle of no where. so for my spare time i was thinking about making a long board. being a chemE i want to make the blank so does anyone know if its possible to make a blank using polyurethane/polyurethane/whatever other foam product or do you need some type of high pressure machine to make the heavier density blocks. also, has anyone else heard about liquid foam?. basically what i've heard is basically an addition reaction[two reactants added to form a product] and the product foam suppose to start forming about a minute after being poured. does anyone know if it has to have the pressure increased in order for it not to expand or does it not expand.

i want to shape it for nose riding so does anyone know certain specifications to go by as far as concaves, rocker, and anything else about shaping the board.
i have a few friends that are doing the whole CAD design thing. so i can get a print up of the exact template of the board. i just need the full specifications.

i'm leaning towards making one with foam. but anything about wooden boards would be cool.

i'm not planning on doing this on a weekend basis or anything, it'll be something i plan on spending some time on[being that i'm trying to plan about 3 or 4 months ahead on it]
anyways. any information you know, or some direction you could point me to about any of this information would be awesome. thanks.

Aight listen up people secret surf spots of sunny FL. now this is locals only knowlage so if you come and people want to kick your ass tell them Sean from PSL said you can surf this spot, and you better rip or ill have some explaining to do. Jensen Beach, go north of that beach exacatly 5 miles on the right there will be a bunch of woods with a speed sign that says 45. you will see a small trail that leads to the beach hard to see unless you actally park at the side of the road and look. this section here is a great spot during the summer, even better during the winter, after the hurricanes it got even better, the reef that was out there was mostly barried due to dregging to fill in the otehr beaches, so after the hurricans it surfaced again and wala we have sweet breaks about 80 yeards out, very consitant during winter. Stuart Rocks, very locals only, you have to fight for each wave, and doge lots or rocks, low tide is the best and worst, your garinteed a sweet ride and a broken board, if not a borken body, North Fort Pierce 30 mintes ride north on US1 after North Jety and before vero, nameless beach not many people go to cause lots of old people live there but nice spot (never crowded), youll see all kinds here people from north, south and west florida head here when everywhere else is packed beyond all ridablness (unless your into snaking several people at a time.) that does it for today remember keep it real, keep it wet, keep it in your pants :P
